
Julie London (nee Peck) was an American actor and singer with a career that spanned 40 years. London, a torch singer famous for her soft, melodic singing voice and languid contralto she recorded over thirty albums of pop and jazz classics between 1955-1969. Her performance of "Cry me a river", a track she released on her debut album, was accepted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her performance as Dixie McCall, a nurse in the show Emergency! Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she began her career as an actress. London's 35-year acting career began in the film industry in 1944. It featured roles in the lead female in various westerns. In the mid-1950s, she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional musical career. In 1969, she released her last studio album. But, she continued to be prominent in the emergency show in the role of Dixie McCall, a female nurse. (1972-1979) during which she was portrayed by her husband Bobby Troup. The show was created by her ex-husband Jack Webb.
