Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic is also a public speaking event organizer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency, a site that features videos and comments discussing the depictions of females in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and award-winning feminist for over 10 years. She is the creator and director of executive for Feminist Frequency A scholarly, non-profit website which explores representations of women within popular media narratives. Committed to destroying the stereotypes related to women in popular media, she is also working with issues that relate to the targeted harassment women and other classes of people on the internet. Sarkeesian holds a Masters in the field of political and social thought from York University. As a public speaker, she's highly sought after and has given talks at TEDxWomenXOXO and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years she was intrigued by issues of gender identity and feminist thinking. When she was still in school, in 2009 she started her Feminist Frequency Website. Someone who hoped to launch a web-series that would examine the representation of gender in video games was targeted by an online campaign. However the attack could have been a hindrance, rather it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist critic of media. Her numerous contributions to the field of feminists are recognized with numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit which studies the portrayals of women in popular media and the narratives that surround them.
